Business dynamics: the aircraft strategy (titre original)
The aircraft game was to understand the inter-relation between the different aspects of a business and the
consequences of changing one of these business aspects on the entire model. The system dynamics is described
by internal factors and external ones. That means that managers have to do with internal factors which can be
evaluated and forecasted most of the time but this is not the case for external elements of influence. The
external context of a business is driven by much more factors that could hardly be forecasted. To prevent
against such elements: managers have to collect data to establish possible scenarii. That means to such a
strategy, the manager would be able to identify first elements to influence its decision making process
following the scenario which is about to be played.
Business economics describe the science and observation that has been made for years to understand the
economics functions and reactions regarding different events. From the beginning of the capitalist systems,
important events have occurred and observations have been made to better understand the context and how our
modern economy evolves nowadays. This specific science is another element that managers have to take into
account to manager their business.
Those are the different points that are considered to be external elements. Regarding internal factors of the
business, the different aspects to be managed are for example Marketing and accounting. The marketing
consists above all to think about what is the market the manager is about to tackle, what are the characteristic
the company propose through its products; what kind of products are we talking about and what is our addedvalue
on the market…
Managers have to keep these considerations at sight in the every day life of the business.
Once the managers know that the market reaction is a good one regarding the product, they have to manage the
growth: the negotiation aspects, of course present on the every day life of the business take another dimension.
Once we have a sustainable business, we can forecast external growth thanks to Mergers or acquisition. Here
begin big negotiation aspects of the business. You have to perfectly know the companies on the market and
what could be good for your company regarding the different interested business among other things.
In case of a merger or of an acquisition, the consequences on the business dynamics are huge. This new
situation changes the global aspects of the business and the entire organization. For the merger or the
acquisition to be a success, managers have to rethink the entire organizational structure.
